GENTILIS (Albericus), professor of civil law at
Oxford; an Italian by birth. He had quitted Italy
with his father, on account of religion. He wrote
several works; three books, in particular, De jure belli,
which have not been unserviceable to Grotius. He died
at London in 1608.
