HARDERWICK, a town of the United Provinces in Dutch Guelderland. It is a well-built town, and the chief of the sea-ports of this province. It has several good buildings, particularly the great church, which is much admired. In 1643, the public school here was turned into an university. The French did it a great deal of damage in 1672, since which time it has been on the decline. E. Long. 5. 37. N. Lat. 52. 14.
