MÆOTIS PALUS or LACUS, Mæotica Palus, or Mæoticus Lacus, (anc. geog.), a lake of Sarmatia Europæa, extending from the Isthmus to the mouth of the Tanais to the east, in compass 9000 stadia, (Strabo). Still called Palus Mæotis, reaching from Crimea to the mouth of the Don.
