LONGFORD, a county of Ireland, 25 miles in length, and 16 in breadth, bounded on the east and south by West-Meath, on the north and north-west by Leirrim and Cavan, and on the west by the river Shannon. It contains upwards of 5000 houses, 24 parishes, 6 baronies, 4 boroughs, and sends 10 members to parliament. It is a small, but rich and pleasant country, and the principal town is of the same name.
