POLISHING, in general, the operation of giving a gloss or lustre to certain substances, as metals, glass, marble, &c.
The operation of polishing optic-glasses, after being properly ground, is one of the most difficult points of the whole process. See OPTICS, no 181, &c. 194, &c.
