POLYGAMIA, (ΠΑΥΓΑΜΑ, "many;" and γΑΜΑ, "marriage.") This term, expressing an intercommunication of sexes, is applied, by Linnaeus, both to plants and flowers. A polygamous plant is that which bears both hermaphrodite flowers and male or female, or both.
