TINE. There are two rivers of this name; the one called North Tine, which rises on the borders of Scotland; and the other called South Tine, which rises on the confines of Cumberland; the one running south-east, and the other north-east. They unite their waters at Hexham; and continuing to run east, divide the counties of Durham and Northumberland, passing by Newcastle, and falling into the German sea at Tinmouth.
