TRAJECTUS RHENI (anc. geog.), a town of Belgica; distant 15 miles by the Itinerary, but scarce six,
from Mannaricum. Its name and situation show it to be Utrecht, capital of the province of that name. E. Long. 5°, Lat. 52°, 7'. The appellation Utrecht, is from Oud trecht, the "old passage;" Vetus Trajectus, as it was called in Charlemagne's days; whence some barbarously form Ultrajetum; more elegantly called Trajectus Rheni, or ad Rhenum.
