WART, in surgery, a little round hard excrescence, being first a small and almost imperceptible induration of the skin, which if observed in time may be easily eradicated. If suffered to remain, it penetrates deeper into the cellular membrane, and sends forth roots, frequently becoming cancerous if irritated by the imprudent use of caustics.
