In confirmation of the opinion that the increase of weight in metallic calces is owing to the adhesion of elastic fluids, it may be observed, that various metallic calces are in great measure soluble in water; which shows that they have something of a saline nature. Perhaps the elastic, or that matter, whatever it is, which generates the elastic fluids obtained from these calces, renders them so.
