FIFE, (Encycl.) This county, anciently called Ross, including the shire of Kinross, is a peninsula lying between the Friths of Forth and Tay. It is bounded on the north by the Frith of Tay; on the south by the Frith of Forth, which divides it from the Lothians; on the west by the Ochil hills; and on the east by the German Ocean.
