STAFFORD, the capital of a county of England of the same name, in W. Long. 2. 6. N. Lat. 52. 20. It stands on the river Sow, over which it has a stone-bridge. It is well built and paved, and had formerly a castle and walls. It has a flourishing cloth-manufacture, and gives the title of earl to a Popish branch of the family of Howard.
