STAMFORD, an ancient town of Lincolnshire in England; seated on the river Walland, on the edge of Northamptonshire. It is a large handsome place, containing six parish-churches, several good streets, and fine buildings. It had formerly a college, the students of which removed to Brazen-Nose college in Oxford.
