AYENIA, in botany: A genus of the pentandria order, belonging to the gynandria class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the 37th order, Columnifera. The calyx has two leaves; the petals are in the form of a star, with long unguis; and the capsule has five cells. There are three species, all natives of the West Indies.
