BANISTERIA, in botany: A genus of the trigynia order, belonging to the decandria class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the 23d order, Tribulate. The calyx is quinquepartite, with necessitous pores on the outside of the base; the petals are roundish and unguulate; the seeds are three, with membranaceous wings. There are seven species, all natives of warm countries, but possessing no remarkable properties.
