BANKSIA, in botany; a genus of the monogynia order, belonging to the tetrandria class of plants. The amentum is scaly, the corolla consists of four petals; the antheræ are in the cavity of the folds, and fossile; the capsule is bivalvular; and the seed is solitary, and bipartite. There are four species, the ferrata, integrifolia, eridæ folia, and dentata, all natives of New Holland.
