BARRINGTONIA, in botany; a genus of the polyandria order, belonging to the monadelphia class of plants, the characters of which are: one female, the calyx dephyllous above; with a drupa, which it crowns; and the feed is a quadrilocular nut. There is but one species known, the speciosa, a native of China and Otaheite.
