BASSIA; a genus of the monogynia order, belonging to the dodecandria class of plants; the characters of which are: The calyx is quadriphyllous; the corolla octoid, with the tube inflated; the stamens are 16; and the drupe is quinquispermous. There is but one species, the longifolia, a native of Malabar.
