BYBLUS, (anc. geog.) a town of Phœnicia, situated between Berytus and Botrys: it was the royal residence of Cinyras; sacred to Adonis. Pompey delivered it from a tyrant, whom he caused to be beheaded. It stood at no great distance from the sea, on an eminence, (Strabo): near it ran the Adonis into the Mediterranean. Now in ruins.
