COTICE, or COTISE, in heraldry, is the fourth part of the bend: which with us is seldom or ever borne but in couples, with a bend between them: whence probably the name; from the French cote, "side;" they being borne, as it were, a-side of the bend.—A bend thus bordered is said to be cotified, cotice. He bears sable on a bend cotified argent three cinquefoils.
