CROFT, a little close adjoining to a dwelling-house, and inclosed for pasture or arable land, or any other purpose.—In some ancient deeds, crofta occurs as the Latin word for a "croft;" but even tofis & croftis is more frequent. Croft is translated in Abbo Floriacensis, by predium a "farm."
