CUMÆ, or CUMA (anc. geog.), a city of Campania near Putoli founded by a colony from Chalcis and Cumæ of Æolia before the Trojan war. The inhabitants were called Cumæi. One of the Sibyls fixed her residence in a cave in the neighbourhood, and was called the Cumæan Sibyl.
