CLAYTONIA, in botany: A genus of the monogynia order, belonging to the pentandria class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the 13th order, Succulenta. The calyx is bivalved; the corolla pentapetalous; the stigma trifid; the capsule trivalved, unilocular, and trispermous. There are two species, natives of America. They are very low herbaceous plants, with white flowers; and are possessed of no remarkable property.
