CLEONÆ (anc. geog.), a town of Argolis, above Mycenæ, on the road which leads from Argos to Corinth; standing on an eminence, on every side occupied by houses. In the forest near this town was slain by Hercules the huge lion (Sil. Italicus, Seneca). Cleonæus the epithet; Cleonæus Sidus, the lion. — Another Cleonæ on Mount Athos in Chalcidice.
