COBOOSE, in sea-language, is derived from the Dutch kambuis, and denotes a sort of box, resembling a fentry-box, used to cover the chimneys of some merchant ships. It generally stands against the barricade, on the fore-part of the quarter deck. It is called in the West Indies cobre vega.
