FUNGI (from fungus, fungus), the name of the 4th order of the 24th class of vegetables, in the Linnean system; comprehending all those which are of the mushroom kind, and which in Tournefort constitute the 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th, genera of the first section in the class xvii.
