HERD, among hunters, an assemblage of black or fallow beasts in contradistinction to flock. See Flock.—In the hunting language there are various terms used for companies of the divers kinds of game. We say a herd of harts or bucks, a bevy of roes, a root of wolves, a riches of martens, &c.
