GRAND Gusto, among painters, a term used to ex-
press that there is something in the picture very great
and extraordinary, calculated to surprise, please, and
instruct.—Where this is found, they say, the painter
was a man of grand gusto; and they use the words sub-
lime and marvellous, when they speak of a picture, in
much the same sense.
