GRAVINA (John Vincent), an eminent scholar, and illustrious lawyer of Italy, born at Roggiana in
1664. He was professor of the canon law in the college of Sapienza at Rome; and though many foreign universities made proposals to draw him to them, he never quitted that city, but died there in 1718. His works are both curious and useful; the greatest of them is De vita et progressu Juris Civilis. A collection of his works was printed in 4to at Leipzig in 1737, with the notes of Mascevinus.
