HEAM, in beasts, denotes the same with after birth in women. Thyme, penny-royal, winter-savory, and common hore-hound, boiled in white-wine, and given to a mare, are esteemed good to expel the heam. Dittany, applied in a pessary, expels the heam, as well as the dead foal; so also do fennel, hops, favin, angelica, &c.
