HYPERBATON, strictly so called, is a long retention

of the verb which completes the sentence, as in the following example from Virgil:

Interea Reges: ingenti mole Latinus
Quadrifugo vexatur curru, cui tempora circum
Aurati bis sex radii fulgentia cingunt,
Solus avi specimen: bigis it Turnus in albis,
Bina manu lato crispans hastilia ferro:
Hinc Pater Aeneas, Romana stirpis origo,
Sidereo flagrans clypeo et celsibus armis;
Et iusta Aescanius, magna spes altera Rome:
Procedunt castris.
