Inverlochy, granted its first charter. He extended its liberties considerably, and in the time of David I. it became a royal residence. The Monbrays had large possessions here, which were forfeited in the reign of Robert II. The Franciscans had a convent in this town; and, according to Sir Robert Sibbald, the Dominicans had another. This town has a considerable trade in coal and other articles.
