JONAS (Arngrimus), a learned Icelandic, acquired great reputation by his skill in the sciences, and particularly in astronomy. He was coadjutor to Gudebran de Thorlac, bishop of Holo, in Iceland. He refused that bishopric, after the death of Gudebran; and died in 1649. He wrote several works; the principal of which are, Idea vere Magistratus, and his history and description of Iceland.
