LOUYS, or LOUIS, (John), an engraver of considerable eminence, who flourished about the middle of the 16th century. According to Busan, he was a native of Flanders. He learned the art of engraving from Peter Soutman, at the time that Suyderhoef studied under the same master; and his usual style of engraving bears some resemblance to that of his master's. One of his best prints is, Diana, with her nymphs, reposing after the chase; a middling-sized plate, lengthwise, from Rubens.
