LYCOPOLIS, or LYCON, (anc. geog.) so called
from the worship of wolves. Lycopolis, the people;
Lycopolites, the district. There were two towns of this
name, one in the Delta, or Lower Egypt, near the
Mediterranean; the other in the Thebais, or Higher
Egypt, in the northern part, to the west of the Nile.
