MELITTO (canonized), bishop of Sardis in Lydia, in the second century; remarkable for the apology he presented to the emperor Aurelius, in favour of the Christians; on which Eusebius and the other ancient ecclesiastical writers bestow great praises: but that apology and all Melitto's other works are lost.
