METROCOMIA (from ΜΗΤΡΑ mother, and ΚΟΜΟΣ town or village), a term in the ancient church-history, signifying "a borough or village that had other villages under its jurisdiction."—What a metropolis was among cities, a metrocomia was among country towns.
