MEVANIA (anc. geog.), a town of the Cisalpine Umbria; seated at the confluence of the Tina and Clitumnus, on the Via Flaminia, famous for its herds of white cattle brought up there for sacrifice; the white colour said to be owing to the waters of the Clitumnus (Virgil). Mevanæ the people. Now said to be Bevagna, in the territory of the Pope.
