AGURIUM, or AGYRIUM (anc. geog.), a town of Sicily in the Val di Demona, near the river Seme tus. The people were called Populus Agyrinensis by Cicero; Agyrinus by Pliny. It was the birth-place of Diodorus Siculus, as he himself testifies; but he calls it Argyrium, as it is now called S. Philippo d'Argirone, which modern name seems to confirm that Argyrium is the true reading.
