ALCYONIUM Stagnum (anc. geog.), a lake in the territory of Corinth, whose depth was unfathomable, and in vain attempted to be discovered by Nero. Thro' this lake Bæchus is said to have descended to hell, to bring back Semele; (Paufantias).
