ALLANTOIS, or ALLANTOIDES, a gut-shaped vesicle investing the foetus of cows, goats, sheep, &c. filled with an urinous liquor conveyed to it from the urachus.—(See COMPARATIVE ANATOMY). Anatomists are not agreed whether the allantois has any existence in the human species or not.
