The characters are: The calyx is hemispheric and imbricated: The corolla is radiated: The stamina consist of five very short capillary filaments; the anthera cylindric and tubular: The pistillum has an oval germen; a filiform style; a bifid stigma in the hermaphrodites, two slender reflected stigmas in the females: There is no pericarpium; but the calyx unchanged: The seeds are solitary, with membranous wings; the receptaculum is chaffy.
