ANCYRA, the capital of Galatia, (Livy, Pliny, Ptolemy); at no great distance from the river Halys, (Livy): said to be built by Midas, king of Phrygia, and to take its name from an anchor found there, (Pausanias). It was greatly improved by Augustus, deemed the second founder of it, as appears from the Mar-mor Ancyranum. It is now called Angura, or Angouria. E. Long. 33°. Lat. 41. 20.
