MOLOSSI, a people of Epirus, who inhabited that part of the country which was called Molossia or Molossus, from king Molossus, a son of Pyrrhus and Andromache. This country had the bay of Ambracia on the south, and the country of the Perrhæans on the east. The dogs of the place were famous, and received the name of Molossi among the Romans. Dodona was the capital of the country, according to some writers. Others, however, reckon it as the chief city of Thesprotia.
