MONTGATZ, a town of Lower Hungary, in the county of Péczas, with a fortress composed of three castles, seated on a craggy rock. It is encompassed with a great morals, and art and nature have rendered it almost impregnable. It was defended by the Princess Ragotky, wife of Count Tickeli, when besieged by an army of the Imperialists, who were obliged to raise the siege in 1688.
