MOREELSE (Paul), an eminent painter, was born at Utrecht in 1575, and studied painting under
Michael Mirevelt. He was very successful, not only in portraits, but historical subjects and architecture, particularly after he had improved his taste by his studies in Italy. We have some excellent wood-cuts in chiaroscuro by this artist, who died in 1638.
