PALINURI PROMONTORIUM (Virgil, Velleius), with a cognominal part, was situated at the south extremity of the Sinus Pæstanus, on the coast of Lucania; so called from Palinurus, Æneas's steerman, who there perished (Mela, Dionysius Halicarnassensis).
