ODO Cantianus, so called as being a native of Kent in England, was a Benedictine monk in the 12th century, in which order his learning and eloquence raised him to the dignity of prior and abbot. Archbishop Becket was his friend; and his panegyric was made by John of Salisbury. He composed Commentaries on the Pentateuch, and the Second Book of Kings; Moral Reflections on the Psalms; treatises intitled, De vere Philisimo; De moribus Ecclesiasticis; De virtutibus et virtutibus Anima, &c.
