OLD-HEAD, situated in the county of Cork, and province of Munster, four miles south of Kinfales, in the barony of Courcies, Ireland: it is a promontory, running far into the sea, on which is a light-house for the convenience of shipping.—A mile from its extremity is an ancient castle of the lords of Kinfales, built from one side of the Isthmus to the other, which defended all the lands towards the head: this place was formerly called Duncerma, and was the old seat of the Irish kings. The Isthmus, by the working of the sea, was quite penetrated through, so as to form a stupendous arch, under which boats might pass from one bay to the other. Among the rocks of this coast there are aviaries of good hawks; also the sea-eagle or osprey build their nests and breed in them.
