PONTEDERIA, in botany: A genus of the monogynia order, belonging to the hexandria class of plants; and in the natural method ranking under the sixth order, Ensiata. The corolla is monopetalous, six-fid, bilabiate; there are three stamens inserted into the top, and three into the tube of the corolla; the capsule is bilocular.
